Are you not making the most of your social media presence?
In some form or another most businesses have a social media presence – whether that is a Facebook company page, Twitter, Instagram or You Tube. Being on social media is great but it is not enough to simply ‘have’ a social channel – you have to use it and use it well in order for it to really maximise its benefit.
We have all come across business pages that appear ‘dead’ – they were last updated in 2014 and haven’t done a lot since! We understand – running a business is often more than a full time job – and things like social media can seem pretty unimportant compared to ‘real’ work! But it is becoming more important to ultilise social media for many reasons:
- customers often search for businesses through social media
- social media attracts so much more new leads and business
- it impacts on your overall positioning and standing in the search results
- a fresh profile makes your company appear to be up to date and ‘in touch’ with your target market
Now you may find that not every social channel works for you – particularly if you are a small business. We recommend that you firstly find what works for you! Facebook may appeal to your target market more and you find it easy to use – if that is the case, go for it! Facebook is a great social channel, used by billions across the world.
However, if you are low on time and don’t generally use Facebook personally, then you may find something more streamlined that may allow you to reach your audience like Twitter. It is a great social channel and perfect for instant information for your customers. For example, if you are a local cafe and have special offers on each day, then Twitter allows you to quickly post these updates to a large audience. Twitter is also great for connecting with others in an easy way!
To maximise your social presence we recommend:
Post on social media regularly
Keep your followers updated – they love fresh news and content and so does Google! It is an important element in SEO terms now – fresh content is valued highly to Google and other search engines!
Engage as much as possible
When a follower makes a comment, leaves a review or retweets you – be sure to engage with them – thanking them or asking a question which keeps the conversation going. We do recommend this if the conversation is positive, however anything negative should be dealt with differently.
Mix it up
Keeping every post the same is sure to bore your followers after a while, so keep it fresh and mix it up! If you usually just post articles then consider a poll to engage people or even a funny meme to show a little humour! Even if you are a serious corporate type of business, there are still benefits of adding a little fun from time to time!
