There are many ways to remove negative information from Google. It really depends on what type of information it is and who it is regarding.
Does Right to be Forgotten apply to me?
It may be that we can use what is known as the ‘Right to be Forgotten’ method – which is submitting your case to Google and they decide whether they will delete the applicable information from their search index. It allows claimants to request the removal of links which are outdated, irrelevant or inaccurate but depends on whether you meet their criteria or not. Additionally, it only applies to content in EU search engines and not worldwide as of yet. Certain news reports or information which is deemed to be in the pubic interest is not allowed to be removed. Anything removed is done at Google’s discretion. Can I ask a News website (e.g The Daily Mail) to remove a story about me?
This is quite difficult and must be dealt with delicately. Sometimes if you contact a newspaper about removal of a story it can actually reignite interest in that story again. It is more likely to work with local news but again must be handled well.
